What's missing from most stories

To really engage the audience, make examples, stories or metaphors relevant and appropriate to the audience.

Humanise it

Make it believable and possible. Appeal to their vaules and what's important to them. Make it understandable to their perception. Relate on common terms so they can relate the example or story to themselves while you're speaking.

Personalise it

Use names and places. Make the information personal to real people and locations whilst also respecting confidentiality.

Specify it

Give details and specifics, enough so your audience can feel involved, yet not too much so they are overwhelmed.

Dramatise it

Lay out the story clearly so others can see, hear, feel it. Use gestures, sensory based language, dialogue, position anchors on stage.

Visualise it

Pychologists tell us that 85% of our knowledge comes to us through visual impressions. To enrich your talk and to ensure the detail comes through visualise it as you are speaking and also include visual demonstrations. display is worth a thousand words.
